PROFILE
What is Bon Dance?
Bon Dance is a traditional Japanese festival dance performed during Obon (the summer holiday period in August). It is a joyous event where people of all ages and genders gather to dance in a circle to traditional Japanese music using simple choreography. Originally performed to commemorate and honor ancestors, it is now cherished across Japan as a fun event that deepens community ties.
Introducing Cho-Bon Dance Japan
Cho-Bon Dance Japan is an original project born from Niconico Chokaigi, one of Japan’s most vibrant pop culture festivals. We’re thrilled to bring this unique content to AFA Thailand 2026!
While traditional Bon Dance is typically performed to traditional Japanese music, Cho-Bon Dance Japan features popular Japanese subculture, such as well-known Anime Songs and exciting Vocaloid music!
By dancing simple choreography together to familiar tunes, Cho-Bon Dance Japan seamlessly blends Japan’s new cultural wave with the age-old tradition of the Bon Dance. It’s a true cultural mashup!
No dance experience? No problem!
The choreography is simple, and we’ll offer easy-to-follow lessons on the spot, so even beginners can jump right in and start having fun. Let’s all dance together and make AFA Thailand even more exciting!
